Description

For the Big Art exhibition, curated by Anne van der Zwaag, Eva created a site-specific artwork in 2025: a massive mural featuring her daughter Lola. The work is now gone, and assisted living homes are being built on the site in the former Slotervaart Hospital. If you’re interested in a mural like this, please feel free to contact us.

About the artwork:

My work Lola is rooted in personal and collective stories of resilience and healing. It arose during a profound period in which my youngest daughter, Lola, became seriously ill. Medical research offered no explanation, which led us to explore alternative paths and to choose to see and treat her as a healthy child. From that choice, space for recovery emerged.

The white owl is her spirit animal, a symbol of clarity, intuition, and the transgenerational transfer of strength. From this experience I began to explore our Indo roots. There I discovered the quiet strength of the Javanese, a power passed down through generations, which revealed itself again in Lola’s healing.

Today, Lola is seven years old, radiant and healthy. Her presence embodies the force of creation, love, and inherited wisdom, the same quiet strength that nourishes my work and that I seek to capture in image.
