Description
Sinyo is a series rooted in a personal search for Indisch identity and the unresolved legacy of colonialism.
Children’s faces surface in layered colored inks on handmade cotton paper; sometimes sharply defined, sometimes fading into silence. They represent the Sinyo: children born of colonizer and colonized in the former Dutch East Indies. Claimed by neither side, many were taken from their parents or denied family, protection, and future by the colonial system itself.
Each work is framed against a black ground, echoing absence and erasure.
Artwork size approx. 20 × 30 cm; framed size 30 × 40 cm.
The artworks are part of the solo exhibition by Eva Margaretha at Galerie Wind, Rotterdam, from 15 February to 15 March. Opening: 15 February at 3 pm. The works will be available after the exhibition.
