Hi, nice to meet ya!

DO WHAT YOU LOVE
LOVE WHAT YOU DO

‘The decisions I have made in my life have led me to the path of art. Art is who I am and what I do. I have never been so free and happy as I am now. My name is Eva Miedema and I’ve created the pieces you see on this website.’ -Eva

Meet Eva

I am a Dutch artist (born 1984) living in Noordwijk, also known as Amsterdam Beach. This vibrant coastal village is where I developed my unique signature style in art. After years of painting nude models, I shaped this style into what it is today. I’ve always been drawn to big brushes and more than just black Indian ink, using this ink to bring my subjects to life. Indian ink is as dark as it gets and dries waterproof. Once the ink is on the canvas, there’s no going back. That challenge makes working with Indian ink unpredictable, experimental, and, most of all, fun. It’s an expressive and unique way of creating.

Positivity, honesty, and loyalty are key values for me. I’m an expressive introvert with a strong determination to do things my own way, and this reflects in my artwork. I don’t take life for granted, and having faced my own struggles, the subjects of my recent works are strong women with a touch of vulnerability. Isn’t art always a true reflection of the artist?

I am a blessed mother of four. Being a mom of four wasn’t always something I thought would be possible. After giving birth to my second child, I was in severe pain and couldn’t walk. Doctors told me I should never get pregnant again, or I’d end up in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. That was a sad and challenging time for me. As a young mother of two, I decided that living in fear wasn’t the life I wanted. Over the years, I trained my body and mind and grew stronger. Together with the love of my life, we decided to live in positivity, focus on possibilities, and try to conceive again. After six years, I felt stronger than ever. Taking that exit on the roundabout of life led me to a pain-free and worry-free pregnancy. This gave me such a confidence boost that I quit my job as a primary school teacher and decided to dedicate myself full-time to creating art. And to top it all off, in this creative bubble of love, we brought our fourth masterpiece into the world—our fourth child, born in 2021.

Life-changing events shape who you are today. For me, creating art every day is something I absolutely must do. My life, emotions, struggles, and vibrant positivity, along with my mindset of endless possibilities, are reflected in each piece I create.

I am an autonomous, self-made artist, which gives me the freedom to create in complete independence. Intuitive, experimental, and always challenging myself in the process. When I work in my studio, I enter an almost meditative, dreamy state. Standing in front of a large square canvas with my favorite medium, Indian ink, I enter a zone I can’t even fully explain. The work reveals itself to me. I trust the process and am always amazed by what I’ve created. I set the piece aside, let it rest for a while, and feel its presence around me. Only then do I decide whether the work is truly finished and ready to be shared with the world. Ready to share my unspoken feelings and emotions, captured in each piece. You are most welcome to join me on this journey.

Notes from Eva

style

My style is bold, rough and rustic. It’s expressive, never precise or extremely detailed. When creating a piece I trust the process. The same way as I approach challenges in life: ‘Go with the flow, everything will be alright and have trust in a positive outcome.’

important person

The first and oldest power women I remember is my Granny Rose. Only 18 years old on a six week boat trip to the Netherlands, she brought some color and flavor with her. After being captivated in a Japanese internment camp, taking care of her siblings, she started a new life. Strong, proud and loving.

happy place

I love to visit the beach next to our home. Take long beach walks with my bare feet in the sand. Have drinks at a beach club. Watch the sunrise and the sunset. When you look at the horizon, you look at the end of the world. After that, there’s nothing you can see. An ultimate form of freedom.
