Unheard, heard

Unheard, Heard reflects on children shaped by colonial structures, war and displacement whose voices were long unacknowledged, revealing how silence settles into bodies and is carried across generations until recognition becomes possible.

Solo exhibition at Galerie Wind, Rotterdam (15 Feb – 15 Mar). Opening: 15 Feb, 3 pm.
Works available after the exhibition.

Description

Unheard, Heard refers to children who remained outside the field of recognition and remembrance. Their lives were shaped by colonial structures, war and displacement, yet their voices were rarely acknowledged as their own.

This portrait does not offer a complete narrative, but draws attention to what is transmitted when listening is absent. Margaretha reveals how experiences settle into bodies, behavior and silence, continuing to resonate across generations. The work reflects on transgenerational transmission and on what becomes possible when withheld recognition finally shifts toward presence.
